A Sneak Peek...

Orion's cake!



Now, I don't own an angel food cake pan..so I opted for two loaf pans instead (and you'd better believe I thought about this for a while, too. 'Just what in the heck kind of pan can I USE for this cake????'). Orion wanted angel food..with strawberries and cream cheese frosting. Okay, love..okay. I didn't want to just stick some strawberries on the top or side..I wanted to also use some as the filling. But just about every "recipe" for strawberry filling involved Jello (ew) or whipped topping (any whipped cream anything is for Thanksgiving..don't touch!). Surely I could make this work. I texted Hannah the cake genius..I think she's still out of town so I didn't *really* expect a response from her because of that. I then texted mom..who was probably at work..so I didn't *really* expect a response from her, either. Cooking..I'm good at. Baking..I question myself too much over. Okayyy, I'll just play around. I threw a bunch of strawberries into the blender and smoothed them out. Okay, obviously going to be too thin..what can I use to thicken it up? White sugar? No. Powdered sugar? Sure..let's try it. I kept it a little thin so the cake would soak it up a little, too..but it for sure got the job done. It ended up with 3 layers of strawberry "filling" and stacked all up..smeared with frosting and strawberries placed all around (which is obvious, I know). I think it's very pretty. I think it's missing a couple of cute chocolate curls on top..but whatever.


I'm off to hopefully get a "Happy Birthday" banner hung up and maybe streamers..if I still have any..before he gets home. He's been at the range all day shooting M16's so I'm sure he's in a great mood. Here's to hoping he doesn't get home too early! This Abby..she likes to be sneaky.
