Last night was pretty tense. I'd been watching the news on and off all day and by the time I decided to call it a night it looked as though no tornadoes were going to come through here. It wasn't until I was right there on the verge of sleep that I heard the tornado sirens on post blaring away. I jumped out of bed and grabbed my phone to call Chelsea to one..see if she even heard the sirens..and two..um, where do we go?

She was also just falling asleep and hadn't heard the sirens. They stopped and I tried to fall back asleep..heart pounding and all.

Chelsea called me back and said we needed to get into the closet in the kitchen (Yes, O..I know that's what you've always said) until everything's all clear. The sirens started back up. I grabbed the babies out of bed and hurried their confused butts downstairs with me. Calix stood by scared and crying..and also probably thinking this is the worst dream ever..as I tossed brooms and things of the such out of the closet..threw a blanket down for us and we all sat very still (except for Maddox who thought this was the greatest game ever..). I had my arms wrapped around my babies ready to throw my body over their very small ones if it meant they'd be okay.

I made Chelsea stay on the phone with me (we were both pretty scared) while she sat in her downstairs bathroom with her 3 babies ("mom, what's a tornado?"). It was just one of those things you wish your husband were home for...and all we have is eachother. So there we sat in each of our spaces until the sirens stopped and all was okay to come out of hiding. I tucked my babies back into their beds and then sat up listening to the radio a bit longer till I knew it was safe for a worried mommy to close her eyes and relax a bit.

My tired little men in the closet. Confused..but willing to play along.

I'm so glad things turned out alright. That picture is hilarious though. Look how awake and interested Maddox is.

After I got your text I tried to call you and got no answer, so there I was a few minutes later (it was near the end of my shift when you texted me), barreling down the winding four-lane in the middle of the night, phoning David. He turned on the tv and picked up the remote (possibly for the first time in his life) and we figured out how to find the news and weather channels. (I sell cable tv, I don't watch cable tv, and the remote is a mystery except for OnDemand.) From the Weather Channel we learned that there were storms but apparenly no tornadoes around Louisville.

Still, since I hadn't heard back from you, we got a local weather watch on the computer and checked it every few minutes til bedtime. Glad to see everything's okay.

We had a bit of the same many years ago when we were moving from NJ to AZ via a visit to my grandparents in KY. Can't remember which state we were in, somewhere in the South (I want to say it was Ft Smith, Arkansas) when we pulled into a motel and learned there was a tornado warning. Jenna was a very small baby at the time, and we were all going to squeeze into the bathtub if we heard the sirens.

Wow! That is scary! I hate being woken in the middle of the night from the phone ringing....I can't imagine what it's like to be woken up by tornado sirens.

Your boys are just ridiculously beautiful.

Long time no talk, by the way. I miss you being on LJ. :)

OMG how scary!!!

glad you're ok... and I love the excited look on Maddox's face!! he looks like he was having a great time lol. And poor Calix looks so lost. At least they aren't old enough to know wtf was going on! im sure they would have been totally freaked.
