It's been a while since I've posted. For the very few readers who aren't family and have no idea what's been going on..there's been something..scary going on for roughly a week. One of my darlings attempted to take her life and nearly succeeded. It's been a rough few days with a very worried family waiting anxiously for the next e-mail update..or phone call to let us know what's going on. But she sounds good and the outpour of love from a family who honestly never shows THAT much love..is amazing. We're really very loyal people..and it gives me goosebumps when everyone everywhere drops what they're doing to rally together when someone we love is in trouble. Fam, I adore you.

Onward.

I took my frustrations out last night on bread dough. How good it feels to kneed and get your hands dirty..only to have something scrumptious come of it (which feels like the answer to what's going on..so it was kind of poetic). And scrumptious it truly was. I decided to make Smitten Kitchen's Chocolate Orange Bread because chocolate and orange are just made for one another.

The cast:

I thought about using vanilla soy milk..but because it's vanilla it would add another flavor and I really just wanted to try the actual recipe before I played with it.

The end result:

Because I made this at night, the entire house had the pleasant orange chocolate scent allllll night. It was wonderful.

I sliced it up for breakfast. It was light and fluffy and I oh so wished I had orange marmalade because I think that would have made it perfect. I'll have to pick some up and try it out.

Because I stole the zest from that huge orange, I decided to peel it, slice it up, and toss in some frozen strawberries, and frozen mango, and then I popped open a can of pineapple rings and sliced those up and tossed it all around in a bowl late last night and hoped the frozens would be thawed out by morning. They were.

Breakfast was perfect..or would have been with a nice marmalade. But that's still just a theory (ps..plain butter? Not a good idea. I tried it on a corner just to see..and it overtook the flavors and wasn't a good thing. I will experiment and get back to you guys.) but in the meantime? Make this bread. Do it. It's fabulous and will make your house smell delicious for hours. Maybe you can make fancy French toast with it! Say, that might turn out well.

Look at this silly boy

he's so cute it hurts.

I'm glad your "person" is doing better. Family is probably the most important thing in the world. I'm glad you have a good one!

That kid is cute, and the bread sounds wonderful!

I love homemade bread and that looks soo yummy!! And yes, Calix is definitely a super cutie!

As far as the costco coupons (I don't know if Sam's Club does them) they are awesome savings! They aren't just like $1 off but usually $2.50-$4.00 off and alot of them don't have a limit of how many you can get with the 1 coupon. Anyway, just wanted to mention that. I'm not sure why I started getting them...maybe I registered at their website or something? or maybe they just send them to anyone who's a member. Whatever it was, I'm not going to complain!
