We did a little shopping yesterday. Picked up a few baby-proofing things at Lowe's..like a gate to keep Calix out of the kitchen when I'm cooking because he's decided he likes to touch the oven and then say "ow"..and outlet covers to keep his fingers out of them as well (he seriously tried to shove his little pointer finger in the powerstrip for the computer yesterday). I picked up a new "accent" rug for the kitchen..and on the way out picked out some curtains for Calix's room. The curtains go deeper than that though.
I was looking online for the new baby's furniture (I've decided to do cherry wood this time)..and I could swear Calix was just giving me dirty looks because here I am planning to decorate the new baby's room all cutesey (be a girl be a girl be a girl) and Calix is still sleeping in a plain room. Which..yeah I know, not a big deal. He only *sleeps* in there..but golly, make me feel bad. I mean, when we were pregnant with the little man (that's currently being rocked with my right foot as I'm typing this), I wanted to decorate for him..but it seemed cheesey to decorate everything in baby stuff..when he'd only be that age for so long..along with not knowing his personality yet..it just didn't seem right. Oh, and the added bonus of being poorer than poor didn't help. However, now that I know him and see which toys he reaches for the most, I feel I can finally safely do a bit of decorating in there. Okay, and we're not poor anymore.
Anyway, while Orion went into Barnes and Noble to pick up a new almanac because he swears someone stole his other one ("Orion..you're the only guy I've ever known who actually sits and *reads* an almanac. I doubt anyone stole it." "Uh, Cuddlebug, lots of people read the almanac" "*cough* nerd *cough*" but he's not so nerdy when he's able to tell me any part of history that I ask for, is he, Abby? No..no he's not. That's when you think he's the hottest.) I had the option of staying in the car with a very ready to go to bed Calix..picking out some maternity clothes at Old Navy..orrr going to Michael's. I made Calix a bottle and headed to Michael's. He sat in the cart (have I mentioned he's an expert at sitting in carts now?) enjoying his milk while I shopped around and asked if he liked the things mommy picked out for him..being sure to show him the bright colors and..illustrate in his mind what mommy's ideas were. He acted interested..and let out a few "ooo"'s. I ended up picking out a wooden airplane and truck..along with some paints and brushes..a couple of model airplanes O and I can build and paint..then suspend from his ceiling..and of course, some trucks and planes Wallies (I still have my fairy Wallies from my old bedroom..and was planning on using them in my daughter's room. please oh please be a girl). I also picked up a little basket for his freakin toys..because they. were. everywhere.
Anyway, it gives me projects to do while Orion's gone for the week. So far this morning, I've hung his curtains and planned out where the Wallies are going..so they're hanging in place, waiting for me to go make their places final. And I plan on painting at least one of the wooden guys later on this afternoon after I experiment in the kitchen with chocolate chip orange bread (I swear it'll turn out with what I'm thinking). I mean, at least this way, he'll be able to grow up in his room a bit more (okay..he'll probably be 7 or 8 by the time he wants new stuff..but hey, that gives me a good 7 years)..and I won't feel like such a bad bad mommy anymore.
I'm not very crafty..but I want to be..so I've decided Michael's and I are going to figure out how I can be uber cute and crafty without needing much talent.
